Ha! I know. I completely agree. I wish we could just do away with cell phones and Facebook and all of that other crap. I’m sick of small talk and these days it seems like everything is small talk. Blah, blah, blah. I think we should all take a vow of silence.

HA! Wow. You two sound very much like my husband and me. “It’s all downhill from here, baby.” Of course we don’t always feel that way, but with the craziness of Alzheimer’s and death these last few years I think it tends to take affect after a while.
The monotony of life can really get to ya. Same old, same old. But as I recently told my husband, at least our monotony is mostly good stuff. Some people really have same old, same old BAD stuff. Ya know?

Anyway, this whole midlife stuff. Not fun. And yes. It makes me want to hole myself up in my house too. Or move out into the mountains away from people. Or a deserted island. Or… whatever.

I love the Trappists. A silent retreat is one of my dream vacations. I can go days without speaking, happily. I hate the phone too and dread both answering it and having to call people. Ugh.

I believe I snorted and nearly spilled my tea at his line: “people are dropping indiscriminate word turds with wild abandon.” Rima, you crack me up!

As for phone calls, there are some people who do seem to need to set some sort of timer. We know someone who regularly gets cut off in her answering machine messages, and will call back to finish in a second message. (Except I think there was that one time when our answering machine was full and wouldn’t take any additional messages.) She’s actually a wonderful woman, and I find what she has to say interesting and often important. It’s just that she could probably share the same information in about 1/3 the time. (Oh, man, here I am rambling on and on myself. This is why I’m no good on Twitter. 140 characters? I can barely hold myself to 140 words. And now I’m just typing for the sake of leaving word turds here on your blog.)
